Two days to go and it'll all be over. It’s enough to bring a grown man to tears. Please excuse the dramatics but this experience has been overly amaaaaaazing – That seems to be the general term adopted when describing this project. Working as an intern on Diesel U Music Radio has easily been the best job ever. I never want it to end! Never has leaving in time to catch the last train from New Cross been so painful. Last month all I wanted to do was write. I wanted to be a writer, end of. Now, the thought of pursuing a career that doesn’t in some shape or form involve radio is just unthinkable. Again, please excuse the dramatics.
What we have here is more than just a radio station. The community and creative spirit that has been injected into Diesel U Music Radio has set it apart from any other station I have come across. This is original pirate material folks… Except maybe with less of the pirate.
Yes we’re nearing the end and yes it sincerely sucks, but the journey has been sweeeeeeet… As a nut, sweet like Tropicana. I got to record my own show that went out in the first week which was fricking unreal… Though admittedly, I did cringe the entire time it was on air. In terms of stand out shows, I’d have to go with Club Brutality. Anyone who is as funny as those two dudes definitely gets my vote. Other highlights include being entertained by Amy’s (one of amaaaaaaazing producers) ridiculously cool dancing in the studio. The girl got the moves. Another obvious one has to be our random takeover of the airwaves where we surprised our lovely station manager, Donna, on her birthday. And of course, the jingles by Leo the Lion that have kept us endlessly entertained – “Diesel Minimaaaaaaaa!”
It’s been a month of never-ending fun and frolicking (of course mixed in with tonnes of hard work from the ridiculously dedicated group of people working here). I couldn’t have asked for a cooler bunch of dudes to work with… They have without a doubt been a huge part of what has made Diesel U Music Radio so utterly unreal.
Big up Diesel for doing this whole thing. It’s been genius. Thanks to whole station crew for being hilarious and simply brilliant. An obese cheers and salute has to go to Emma Sutton (Broadcast Curator and Chief innit!) for getting me involved in what has been a bloody brilliant and life-changing experience (oh the drama).
Forget anything anyone else has said in the past – it was Diesel Radio what killed the video star!
It’s been amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing folks!
Peeeeeaaaace and love innit,
Mahta x
